Ileana Dcruz talks about her character in Raid

Mumbai, February 24th, 2018: Actress Ileana Dcruz will be seen playing the role of Ajay Devgn’s wife in Raj Kumar Gupta’s directorial venture, Raid. Set in 1981 Lucknow, Raid is based on one of the biggest income tax heists that changed the course of history! From her debut in the rom com Barfi or showcasing her comic timing in Mubarakaan, the actress has always attempted to play a varied choice of characters.

In an interview with a leading publication, Ileana gave us an insight about her character in Raid, “Even though the film is about the raid with Ajay (Devgn) as an income tax officer, I do have a pivotal role. I admit, in terms of footage, it’s not large, but it’s an interesting part of the film. My character is not a demure biwi from the ’80s, she is sensible, speaks her mind and is quite the force behind him. The equation between them comes out in the songs and in the emotional scenes where you realise she is worried for him yet tries to put up a brave front.”

On working with Ajay Devgn again after Raid and Baadshaho, she said, “There’s no plan as of now, but I’d love to work with Ajay again because he’s been doing a lot of content-driven films and is a nice, positive person to hang out with. On the sets, he was always chatting with his daughter (Nysa) or son (Yug) and since I was invariably listening in, I now feel I know his whole family.”

Community-oriented Conservation in Focus as Dia Mirza and UNEP Team Visits Wildlife Trust of India Project Site in Maharashtra

Gothangaon, Maharashtra, February 24th,2018: A team from UN Environment (UNEP), led by its Executive Director Erik Solheim and Country Head (India) Atul Bagai, accompanied Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) Executive Director & CEO Vivek Menon to Gothangaon, a village near Maharashtra’s Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary yesterday afternoon. WTI Brand Ambassador and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza was also present at the village, where the local community is developing a conservancy.

news_Vidarbha-tiger_unep-visit_2The UNEP team was shown WTI’s Improved Cook Stove (ICS) initiative, under which several thousand energy-efficient cook stoves have been introduced in village households near the critical Nagzira-Nawegaon-Tadoba tiger corridor in the Eastern Vidarbha Tiger Landscape. The modified cook stoves serve a dual purpose: reduced emissions, improving air quality and the health of community women, and reduced fuelwood consumption, which mitigates the anthropogenic stress on nearby forests. WTI has partnered with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Japan Tiger and Elephant Fund (JTEF), the KFW Group, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the Maharashtra Forest Department in this endeavour, which forms part of its larger Vidarbha Tiger Project.

Having minutely examined the functioning of an ICS unit against that of a traditional cook stove, UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim lauded the WTI team for the initiative, which he said would serve as a bridge between the heavily polluting and less energy efficient cooking methods of the past and the highly energy efficient cooking mediums of the future. “This is a really important intervention given that we are so keen to improve our air quality as well as the health of our rural women”, said Dia Mirza, who took a hands-on approach by preparing a chapati on an ICS unit; “It allows these women to cook as they always have, yet with less fuelwood taken from the forests and without the problems associated with smoke inhalation.” Over 2.5 lakh rural women suffer from respiratory diseases associated with smoke emitted from traditional cooking methods, said UNEP’s India Country Head Atul Bagai, adding that when the team had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi he had asked UNEP to provide technological inputs on cheaper alternatives based on renewable energy.

The visitors were given chapatis along with mahua pickle prepared by women Self Help Group members of Rampuri and Garada villages, which lie near the Nagzira-Nawegaon-Tadoba corridor. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included the Umred MLA Sudhir Parwe; the Conservator of Forests and Field Director of Pench Tiger Reserve R Govekar; the Founding Editor of Sanctuary Asia Bittu Sahgal; WII Scientist Bilal Habib; Special Secretary to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Praveen Pardesi; Tehsildar of Kuhi Taluka, Nagpur District Vinita Lanzewar; and Nagpur Collector Sachin Kurwe.

The Marketing Strategy of Padman broke a lot of taboos and myths, just like the film!!!

Mumbai, February 20, 2018: Marketing & promoting a film in today’s times have become equally important as shooting for it.

Akshay Kumar has been on a Taboo Breaking spree since a while, be it his choice of films, variety of genres, working with debut directors and co actors etc. What he is doing different with Padman is breaking the taboo of Film Marketing.

Not only did he ensure with the trailer, that the film looks like a breezy entertainer in spite of being centered around a taboo topic of menstrual hygiene. He is also shunning the usual ways of marketing the film.

  • There was no trailer launch media event but he held a press conference 6 days after the trailer was launched so that it could be discussed at length and not a formality tick off from the list
  • Instead of visiting any college or a public event, the team specifically targeted renowned colleges like IITs and IIMs across the country as Akshay wanted to have a dialogue with the students about the film and not just wave to the crowd like most of the films do. Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor supports TERRY FOX RUN INDIA to kick off on January 28 this year

Chief patron, Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis will be felicitating the run this year

Mumbai, January 22, 2018: Every year, thousands of children from across the city gather at Marine Drive to raise cancer awareness and support for research into the prevention and cure of childhood cancer. Inspired by Terry Fox’s original Marathon of Hope, the run is hosted by the Terry Fox India Committee and supports the Tata Memorial Hospital for Cancer Research here in Mumbai. Over the past twenty years, Terry Fox India has raised crores in support of the Tata Memorial Hospital. Together they have developed research that has impacted the lives and futures of several children suffering from cancer.

Terry Fox Run 1Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete who was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma (bone cancer) and forced to amputate his right leg at the tender age of 18. The prognosis the doctors offered him was poor and this was only due to a lack of research into treatments for cancer. Being faced with such a life altering diagnosis, Terry decided to turn his story around to raise money and awareness for cancer research. He decided to run across Canada and thus began a journey called “Marathon of Hope”. Terry died before he could complete his run as the cancer spread to his lungs and his health deteriorated rapidly thereafter. But by the time he passed away at 22, Terry Fox had raised over CAD 23 million for cancer research.

Today Terry Fox’s legacy has raised nearly CAD 650 million in support of cancer research and hundreds of children are now given treatments that have been made possible through our research.

The first Terry Fox run in Mumbai was started twenty years ago with the help of Sanjeev Choudhary, the Vice Consul for Canada, and Leopold Cafe, a famous and well-known restaurant in Mumbai. 350 children from the Cathedral School assembled at Priyadarshini Park and raised a total of INR 7 lakhs for cancer research at the Tata Memorial Hospital. Since then, the run committee has expanded to include principals from various schools across Mumbai, film and media personalities, corporates, banks and several more. For years, Leander Paes, Abhishek Kapoor, Keith Sequiera and Rochelle Rao have all stood with the Terry Fox India Committee to find a cure for cancer.

Today, the run is a city-wide event with nearly 10,000 students from nearly 60 schools participating each year to raise about INR 1.5 crores annually for cancer research.

100% of the proceeds and pledges from children participating in the run are sent directly to the Tata Memorial Hospital. These proceeds have been used to fund a variety of research into childhood cancer. The projects have ranged from research into new radiotherapy techniques that minimize negative health effects to specialized genetic research into various childhood cancers.

“I am proud to be part of the 20th Terry Fox Run in Mumbai. Terry Fox was a courageous young Canadian, diagnosed with bone cancer in 1971, who decided to raise money for cancer research by running across Canada. He ran the equivalent of a marathon every day for 143 days before the disease claimed his life. The Terry Fox Run in Mumbai run is one of the largest of its kind in the world. The run has continued all these years with the close collaboration of the Mumbai Terry Fox committee and Tata Memorial Hospital. We hope that everyone will join hands to run (or walk) toward a cancer-free future for our children.” Jordan Reeves, Consul General of Canada.

In the early years of the run, only 2 out of 10 children would be able to go back home fully treated. Today, 8 out of 10 children are able to go home and live out their dreams. “It is our dream to see a day when all 10 out of 10 children who are treated at Tata Memorial Hospital will be able to go home to their families because of the research that has been made possible through Terry Fox India. A world where children can be children, without the burden of tubes and injections to keep them healthy, that is the world we are aiming for,” says Gul Kripalani, Chairman of the Terry Fox Run India Committee.

This year’s run will take place on January 28th at 7:30 am opposite the Air India building. Chief patron, Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis will be felicitating the run this year.

October’s promotional campaign shot at an outdoor location

~No props, studio, set-up or artificial lights used~

MUMBAI, 22nd January, 2018: Varun Dhawan and Banita Sandhu, the lead pair of Shoojit Sircar’s much-awaited film- October, shot for the film’s promotional campaign yesterday.

 

Keeping in line with the fresh vibe of the film, this is one of the rare promotional campaigns in Bollywood and a first for Varun, which has been shot entirely in natural light and at an outdoor location, not in a studio. Shot by ace lens man, Jatin Kampani, there were no artificial lights, setup or props used in the entire photo-shoot.

A source at the shoot said, “Yesterday, we shot for October’s promotional campaign at a beautiful outdoor location that reminded everyone of the film’s shoot. Amitabh Bachchan Unveils The Mumbai Police Calendar

Of course when he got a chance to unveil a calendar that showcases the inspiring side of Mumbai Police, Amitabh Bachchan could have not said no! Which is exactly what the superstar did at the recent Umang event – released ace photographer Pravin Talan’s third edition of the Mumbai Police calendar, in presence of the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai Mr. Dattatray Padsalgikar and other senior officials of the police force.

Apart from his screen avatars, Mr Bachchan has also shared a close rapport with the police force, often talking about the sacrifices the men in uniform make while serving the city. Interestingly it is these very stirring tales that Pravin Talan’s calendar showcases. Congratulating the photographer, the actor also felicitated him on behalf of Mumbai Police by presenting him a memento at the event.
